Alternator

Alternator has two types

Dc generator

Ac generator

Ac generator has two types

Synchronous generator

Armature generator

Principal of synchronous generator:

Principal of dc generator and synchronous generator are same.

Dc generator has field winding on stator and armature winding on rotor

But synchronous generator has armature winding on stator and field winding on rotor.

Working principal of synchronous generator:

Synchronous generator works on the principal of farady's law.

Farady's law:

When conductor cut magnetic flux, the emf is induced in the conductor.

Emf induce in the conductor is directly proportional to rate of change of flux.

Emf induce is alternating in nature and hence current produced is alternating.

This ac current is converted into dc current by commutator for dc generator.

But in ac generator no commutator is connected since the output is ac.

Direction of induce voltage can be obtained by fleming right hand rule.

In fleming right hand rule thumb represents motion of the conductor, fore finger represents direction of flux, middle finger represents direction of induce current.
